*Surf Guiding: Completely optional but since our retreat is located in one of the best and least crowded surf areas in Portugal, we can’t miss the chance to catch some waves together. As your local guides, we’ll personally take you to the best spots, help you organise equipment rental and lessons, and ensure you experience the best waves Alentejo has to offer.

Where you’ll be staying

We’re staying at Manas Coliving, a traditional Portuguese house with amazing sea view. We cannot wait to have a morning coffee with you on the terrace watching the sun rise above the port. Every room has their own individual vibe.

FAQ

What if I’ve never surfskated before?

That’s no problem at all and very exciting! We’re welcoming any level but specifically love to teach beginners. Taking a whole week to really focus on skating is the best way to learn and most importantly: Figure out if this might be your new favourite hobby :)

Is Sanana only for women?

Not at all! Everyone is welcome!

How do I get to Sines?

By Bus
There is a direct bus connection from Lisbon to Sines several times a day, which is a very convenient way to get here. You can book your bus here.

By Car
In case you decide to rent a car at the airport, it’s a straightforward drive to Sines and the car will allow you to explore all the surrounding beaches and towns.

What if I don't want to surf?

Prefer tanning over paddling for your life? We completely understand. Our main goal is that you have an amazing week, so if you don’t feel like doing any of the activities: don’t do it. This is your vacation and you decide what it should look like.

Is there time to rest and do my own thing?

Yes, the itinerary leaves gaps to enjoy some free time every day. So you can just go with the flow and do whatever you feel like from reading on the terrace over a stroll through the village to beach hopping.

Do I need a car?

No, Sines is easily accessible by bus and our house is in the middle of the village so you can walk everywhere. We’ll organise transport to surf spots as best as we can. Nevertheless, having a car will enable you to explore all the surrounding beaches by yourself and give you more freedom.

What kind of food is included?

We love having little dinner parties, so we decided to provide 2 home-cooked family dinners. The food will be vegan, and we can accommodate other dietary requirements if you let us know before. Additionally, we’ll provide a small daily breakfast buffet with bread and spreads. Coffee and tea is included at any time of the day.

What does Surf Guiding mean?

Sanana is not a surf camp so we don’t include any lessons. However, our house happens to be located close to amazing surf spots, and we want to help you experience the usually uncrowded waves if you want to. Surf guiding means we’ll help you organise rental and lessons, if you’re a beginner, or transport and rental for advanced surfers. Of course, surfing is always dependent on the weather and tides so we just need to go with the flow.

How are the Surf Conditions in Sines?

This part of the Portuguese coastline offers some of the most uncrowded surf spots in the country, with options for all levels—from beginner to advanced—within a 30-minute drive from the house. As your local guides, we’ll personally take you to the best spots and can organise lessons for any surf level.

What can I expect from the Surfskate Workshops?

The workshops are dedicated sessions where we focus on specific areas of surfskating, such as mastering snaps, practicing drop-ins, refining pumping techniques, and even surfskate maintenance. Each workshop will be adapted to the skill level of the group, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to more advanced riders, gains valuable skills and insights.

Will I need to share a room?

We have different booking options and pricing dependent on your budget and social battery. You can book all the rooms for yourself, together with a friend/partner or tell us you’re happy to share with another Sanana participant.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We’re a very small pop-up retreat and not a big organisation, so we hope you’ll understand we need a certain level of commitment when you book. You can cancel your booking with 100% refund until 3 months before the start of the retreat. After that, we’ll unfortunately need to keep your deposit of 50%.

Do I need to bring my own board?

If you have a board that you’re comfortable with and would like to practice on, you’re more than welcome to bring it along! However, if you don’t have a board, no worries—we’ll provide one for you to use during the retreat.

Will there be other dates available?

Rather than a normal surf/skate retreat, this is a unique week that will only happen once. David and Svenja both have full time jobs so this is our passion project to pour all our heart in. Buuut… let’s see what the future brings and if there will be some other pop-ups in different locations.
